LONDON EATS: JOE’S SOUTHERN KITCHEN AND BAR (Featuring @sisterholics as author)

in #blog8 years ago (edited)

My friend Angelina treated me with a trip to the theater to go see Phantom of the Opera for my birthday! I love belated birthday gifts. I had been moaning and complaining that I have lived in London for 1 year already and still had not been to see a single show. Before I knew it, she whipped up two tickets and promised to be the best date ever. She sure kept that promise!

Joe’s has a cool interior design, something somewhere between a laid-back, chill diner and an old-school wooden building. It spans over 3 floors, has an extensive bar which we were led past to a dark corner. Perfect date setting!

Joe’s is most famous for it’s *shock and awe* Southern inspired menu. Think pulled pork, soft shell crab, burgers, and of course, lots’a chicken. It doesn’t quite sound like the perfect vegetarian restaurant as it doesn’t offer very many vegetarian options,  but I made it work.

We arrived in time for happy hour and Lina had raved about the French Martini, so we started of with two. Let me just say these alone are worth going to Joe’s for, they taste like heaven in a cocktail glass (yes that is the technical description for a drink!).

Before we knew it, another two were required!

As a Starter we shared the artichoke and spinach dip, which was delicious but deceivingly filling.

Somewhere between the third cocktail and only starters, things got interesting…

Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait too long for our mains. The super friendly waitress came out with the daily special, “coq in a bun with fries covered in chicken salt” and the “spinach mac & cheese”.

We decided to share everything, although I obviously avoided the coq and indulged in the salted fries instead.

The mac n’ cheese wasn’t quite as photogenic but what it lacked in physical attractiveness, it made up with flava and was deliciously cheesy.

The food was perfect comfort food, warm, filling and completely indulging. Lina and I can both eat a lot but it was all so rich and decadent we could not finish it all. So be warned, don’t order with your the eyes, it was lot more than we expected.

After having been wined and dined with a lovely date, we decided a bit of a walk would help us clear our minds and bellies so off we went to explore London like tourists. The necessary telephone booth shot followed shortly.

“Done!” with business for the day, let’s go enjoy ourselves.

I’m wearing a Zara top (similar), Skirt (similar), Topshop Coat (similar), Prada Bag, and Reiss Shoes (Go get them, they are on Sale!),  and Earrings

Looks like a successful date and theatre birthday gift to me! Thank you Lina!

See you lovelies soon!
