After receiving a creature called a Mogwai from his father as a Christmas gift, a teenage boy takes on the responsibility of this strange creature, and breaks some of the rules to keeping that specific pet. After breaking one of those rules his Mogwai begins to multiply, and shoot out unique copies of itself. After having too many of the Mogwai's and breaking more rules, they cocoon themselves and turn into much uglier and ruthless creatures, called Gremlins. And they're only meaning in life is to cause absolute chaos anywhere that they go. They begin to over run the town and it's up to their new owner to get rid of them. Definitely a throwback, this movie was released on June 8, 1984 and was directed by Joe Dante.
It includes actors such as:
Zach Galligan
Phoebe Cates
Corey Feldman
Jonathan Banks
& Hoyt Axton
This has been a movie that I've always watched since as far back as I could remember. This movie being 10 years older than myself, it was definitely one of those movies I watched fairly early in my childhood. I got to experience it as a child, then again as an adult. And I think that always makes it more fun to watch. You get to see how much you never really understood as a kid. You notice jokes and stuff that you never saw as a kid. One thing I saw that I thought was pretty cool was Jonathan Banks' little cameo. He's got a small part in the movie, but you can definitely tell it's him, just much younger than we know him today. For those who don't know who Jonathan Banks is, he's the guy who plays Mike on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.
Watching how crazy these little Gremlins can get is uniquely satisfying. They break dishes, throw food everywhere, break windows, smoke, and recklessly cause damage to anything in their vicinity. Even themselves. Imagine the rowdiest biker gang you can think of with a tendency to disregard every possible rule that they can think of. Now add those personalities to a 3 foot goblin looking creature, and you're fucked pal. This movie was pretty funny and definitely a unique concept. I definitely recommend giving it a watch if you haven't! It's enjoyable for everyone in the family! 3/5 rating.
