HELLO EVERYBODY!
Well we had a great time this weekend. This is the Largest Free Medieval Festival in Western Canada and this year the Clans of Vikings amd Knights did not disappoint. It was also incredibly hot out. I feel kind of bad for these Vikings and Knights. They were fighting hard for 2 days in 38 celscius! Here is the end of a small parade as the players entered the Platzl to start off the event!

Here are a few pictures as well.
After a short speech from the King and Queen we headed to the park where the players had set up camp for the weekend.
They also had a number of vendors out. Some amazing jewelers, henna art, a local meadery mmm, and others.
Here are some pics I got wandering around the camp. Look but don't touch. Well not too much! Some of these players go all out!
My little man tried to run off with an axe but a maiden kindly got him to replace it.
BATTLE TIME! This is what came to see. We went just before noon and caught the Vikings showing off some weaponry like these Battle Axes!
I didn't quite get a pic in time but the other guy blew apart the defenders shield!
About 25 men and women got up for an All out battle, last warrior standing wins! Here are the best pics and a couple videos so you know how hard they go. Apparently we have a local group called the Feral Fang. I may just have to join. After I purchase liability insurance!!! This is nuts, but I like it! Enjoy the show!

Hope you enjoyed that. That is real weighted gear they use. Obviously blunted but a wrong move could cause harm. They practice 4 to 8 hours a week on combat and safety so they can continue to put on events like this and keep injuries down. From what I saw, they use full force, it is pretty exciting. They also showed battle formations and archery. We missed the Knights this year as it was so hot and little man needs his nap. I can't even imagine what that would have been like with plate mail on as well. But back in the day people fought in all weather conditions. Those warriors were insane badasses. Now battle gear is lightweight and sleek. These guys do train in an array of martial arts as well. If you lose your weapon what then. Competions are held all over the world. I myself may look into this. It looks like a lot of fun!
Well for a small city of 7500 we are sure stoked they bring this event here every year. The kids and locals love it! Until next year. Thanks for stopping by and checking it out! Blessings!
