Three days ago, I visited a friend in his family home. When I got there he was not around, the family opted that I wait for him in his room but I realize the winds outside was so refreshing and decided that I would rather wait for him in the compound.
I relaxed on a camp bed and then I soon saw something interesting. They had a dog in a cage which was more like a lion and as I lay there I saw that anytime someone walked in, it will bark in rage regardless if the person was a member of the home or not.
I saw as it bark as though it was ready to attack as a small boy walked in, he was my friend's little brother. However after a few minutes the boy came back running towards the cage with some food in a bowl.
I was ready to see how this boy was going to handle feeding this dog against all its raging... But to my shock the dog remained calm as if it was suddenly a different dog. I could not get it, so I kept observing, the boy opened the cage and placed the food there and closed it back. As he begun to run back, I called him.
"How are you able to feed this dog when it was raging on your entry?" I asked. The boy smiled and said "that is how it is, if you have food in your hands then you are friends else you should not break its space"
Such a lesson, then I begun thinking about the things I know of dogs already!
After a while I decided to go online and read more about dogs and then I saw some composition that made a very interesting reading.....
If a dog was your teacher these are some of the lessons you would be learning:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them (Well the dog was caged so I don't know this one applies but that is very unique with dogs!)
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face,to be pure ecstasy
When it’s in your best interest, practice obedience
Let others know when they’ve invaded your territory
Take naps and stretch before rising
Thrive on attention and let people touch you
Avoid biting, when a simple growl will do
On warm days stop to lie on your back on the grass
On hot days drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree
When you’re happy dance around and wag your entire body
No matter how often you’re scolded, don’t buy into the guilt thing and pout, run right back and make friends
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk
Eat with gusto and enthusiasm
Stop when you have had enough
Be loyal
Never pretend to be something you’re not
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it
When someone is having a bad day, be silent….…sit close by…and nuzzle them gently.
Lessons are abound for us all in everything we do each day. One thing I will often stress is the need to learn each day and never stop, it is only in learning that we get better. No matter how a situation may be inconveniencing, there is much we can always learn.
Hope you had an interesting read too, thanks for your attention and have a great day ahead!
