What is it

in #blog6 years ago
Back in school I had this supervisor who once asked me, he said " Hey Kannde, in case you complete school, what do you think I will remember about you?"

In my mind I was like "hey, shouldn't it be rather you answering that?" but you know I couldn't actually say that to him so I smiled and said, Sir, unless you tell me.

He insisted that I should be the one to decide that and if I couldn't, it meant that I had not given him a reason to remember me. It was then that I remembered that I was always the guy that never agreed with his views during lessons. I reminded him this and he laughed. "Well, it was negative in a way but that I can't forget about you" he said almost breaking into laughter.

This man was so particular about leaving footprints that as soon as he takes over a new office or lab, he would change everything by simply redesigning the place. equipment that was facing east would face west and so forth. His reason for doing this was instant notice of change. He believed that even though change is often thought of as a state of mind, physical structures have its influence as well. He didn't need a week or a month to be noticed, all he needed was some few hours and people will start asking what happened here.

I narrated this because I want to put forth a point that it is vital to leave a mark on the lives of people anywhere you go. Either in business or in a relationship or anything involving humans, that aspect is invaluable. You have to give a car dealer the reason to turn down other buyers for your sake even when you are probably going to buy at lower price.

Sometimes we may be tempted to think that we have to do so much in order to leave a mark in the lives of people meanwhile it is the little things.

Now go back and look at the picture above and for no reason there is one that stole your attention, not because it is so nicer, bigger or better than the others but simply because it is different.

Fortunately either you believe in creation or evolution, fact is that were all fashioned different to the detail. The problem however is that the society dictates ways to make us do things in a defined order thereby taming our uniqueness a bit. It is necessary knowing however, that the few people who have left marks are those that defy this societal rules in one way or another.

Try to do things your own way and always find a way to leave your marks on every individual you get the chance to work or live with. Let them have a reason to remember you again when you/they are not around. It may be in the way you talk, your way of dressing, your attitude or just something peculiar about you.

Let me ask you something right now. When you hear Bill Gates, what mental image come to you? Well that is of course if you have been seeing him.

What about Mark Zurkerberg? Steve Jobs(RIP) Mr. Bean? Ibrahimovic? Usain Bolt? and so on.
There is something about these people that leaves a mental picture in your mind.

I mentioned these people because we probably are all familiar with them but there are people in our lives that you can't seem to forget. You might not know exactly why but if you dig deep, you will realize most of these people have something unique about them that makes them stand out from everybody else.

I was just looking at some funny pic of Steve Jobs that some website compiled and you will wonder what it was with turtle neck that this phenomenal electropreneur couldn't let go.. check it out...steve-turtleneck.jpg

You need to have something about you that people won't easily forget and you can do this by simply being yourself. If you do not hold back too much you will naturally come off as unique.

So what is it about you that you think people can't forget?

Lets hear you in the comments and have a blessed time ahead. Cheers!!

I loved the story about the teacher changing things immediately, and it got me thinking about how such subtle things can have a huge difference. We don't need to do something dramatic, just be slightly different from the crowd.

Exactly, just the little things!

Doing things your own way always enable u to leave a trail and legacy behind
