Hey Hive community, first of all I hope that you are all doing well and that you had a day that was full of positive experiences! In this post, I would like to bring a mineral a little closer and hope you are able to expand your knowledge in this interesting field.
The rather rare mineral tenorite can be seen here which was first found in the 19th century in Italy on Mount Vesuvius of Semmola who had decided to name it to honor the Italian botanist Michele Tenore (1780 - 1861) who studied medicine in his early years and became a doctor a few years later and he also developed a great interest in botany and is also one of the co-founders of the famous botanical garden in Naples. Tenorite can also be classified in the class of oxides and it is usually produced by weathering in copper-containing deposits and is often found together with other copper-containing minerals, but it can also be caused by volcanic activities and the appearance or color of the crystals can vary. It is known to be a relatively heavy mineral and in the original form the color is usually black or gray but it discolors due to the influence of heat and can take on a green color and under strong light the appearance can appear different and in addition the surface looks metallic. Due to its rarity, it is not of interest from an economic point of view and particularly intereting in collectors circles and it can also be relevant for various areas of research and the best-known places of discovery include England, North or South America, Spain, the Czech Republic or Africa.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about minerals! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens!
