You can see here some works of art that have been carved from wood and carving is one of the oldest crafts of humanity and has been of great importance since the Stone Age and it is assumed that the first works could be even older than the first cave paintings. Carving is also called the processing of wood with a knife or other objects to create shapes from it and in the past, mainly everyday objects such as tools, weapons, dishes or other objects were created for daily survival. You needed a large amount of skill as well as patience and creativity and of course you needed a sharp knife and if you are in wild nature you can do a lot with these skills. Over time, carving developed more and more into an art form that has shaped some cultures and sculptures or other ornaments were carved from wood and for some natives it was of great importance to create masks, ritual objects or other decorative objects. Of great importance for the art of carving was the Middle Ages, where it gained a particularly high priority and shaped many important art epochs and it was particularly used for the decoration of buildings or the production of furniture, sculptures or religious and other decorative objects. In the 17th century, the topic flourished even more and more new techniques were used to create abstract shapes and more and more different types of wood were used and some carpenters also integrated carving into their work. New techniques have been developed around the globe and so, for example, the bark was also used to create works from it and to this day this old form still enjoys great popularity.

Happy that you are also interested in this formative art form :)

I didn't know the history of it before, after reading today's post I found out that all these wooden things are very laborious to make.

It is a great pleasure for me to hear that you were able to learn something new!
