Here are pictures of seagulls that I have already taken from a few months and in this post I would like to specifically address the symbolism and mythology of this beautiful animal. From a symbolic point of view, seagulls are often associated with freedom, homesickness, intuition or thirst for adventure and because seagulls have the ability to travel on the water as well as the land or the air, they are also associated with the elements earth, water and air. In numerous legends seagulls can be found and in Greek mythology there is a legend that was handed down by Homer and says that the couple Alcyone and Ceyx issued themselves as Zeus as well as Hera and for punishment Zeus let the couple drown in the sea and both have risen again after they drowned in the form of a bird and Ceyx turned into a seagull while Alcyone transformed into a kingfisher. Seagulls are also associated with the goddess of love Aphrodite and can also be found in some legends that revolve around sailors and are considered companions on the sea and ensure that they arrive safely to their destination. The Native Americans saw seagulls as a symbol of creativity which had the ability to communicate with other worlds and also in Norse mythology, seagulls were considered to travel between two worlds. In the Celtic mythology of Ireland, these animals were often associated with the goddess Morrigan, who has also been revered as the goddess of fertility or the coast and also in art, seagulls can often be seen and heraldry has also shaped it widely and can be seen in different coats of arms.
