It's dark outside and late in the evening here on the east coast as I write this post (which I wasn't going to write, but we'll get to that). The sounds of voices in conversation combine with the booming music from vehicles, combine into a steady cadence that takes my mind far away from the here and now.
I actually had no intention of blogging at all today, having enjoyed popping in and dropping (hopefully thoughtful) comments whenever a blog post caught my eye. I'm a firm believer that while writing can take some effort, should be fun and something you should look forward to.
I'm not particularly concerned about how often I post. If I have the time, and feel that I want to share my thoughts, I contribute. Lately I've been extremely busy and have at times, fallen asleep at my desk.
This model is L-shaped, and supports a triple monitor setup, with the middle one being my "Hive Monitor.' That's where all of the content creation happens, with the right monitor hooked up to my Apple TV 4K, where I'm currently plowing through season 1 of the series Silo.
Everything I need is nearby, and the whole thing is designed to reduce friction so that I can create "when the spirit moves me." None of this oh-my-God-I-have-to-get-a-post-out-daily-or-the-world-will-split-in-two. That nice, but I think that kind of forced writing tends to show itself over time. It starts to read like "work" know what I mean?
So I thought that writing a post about not writing a post, was in some ways, waxed poetic.
The overall message of this piece if there is one, is to never allow yourself to be pressured into writing. What's that old saying? "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." The same I believe happens to those with a passion for writing. So just chill out and allow your unique voice to develop.
Smooth Sailing
One of the things I enjoy about being a blogger is watching different parts of the world come online as the hours pass by. In the evening, we see lots of posts from Latin America. In the early morning (east coast US time), we see the UK and West Africa bringing in the new day (it's Thursday at 10:34PM as I write this, with England being 5 hours ahead, and already into Friday).
In the back of my mind I'm usually writing with the east coast of the United States in mind, (since that's where the majority of Americans live - east of the Mississippi river, to the east coast).
I check the news first as part of my blogging routine, then ride the waves wherever the net decides to take me. But I always end up right back here on Hive, in an environment free of pressure and (when the time is right), I'm ready to create.
Another car stopped out front and is playing that song Hey Nineteen by Steely Dan. Here on 12/19/2024, I feel those notes are the perfect place to end this post. Stay light and cool, chill and relaxed, leaving yourself open as the words come one by one.
