Being a brand new blogger is an exciting experience for a lot of people. You have a place to air your views, perhaps for the first time. You can share your experiences, or bestow your expertise on an as-yet unknown audience. But once the newness wears off, blogging can feel like a chore.Soon, you start making excuses, and neglecting your blog. In time, you might stop blogging completely because you think nobody is reading. The problem is that readers do not usually show up on day 1 without any promotional effort from you.
Three Words
To build a long-term audience, you need a few things:
- Knowledge: you have to know what you’re talking about. It will soon become apparent if you don’t. Write what you know!
- Passion: you need to enjoy blogging if you plan to be around for a while. Write what you like!
- Perseverence: do you give up at the first hurdle? Well, your blog might not be around for very long then. Blogging isn’t always easy.
There are many other reasons why a blog may or may not be successful, but I think the key is to build a site that people want to visit. Keep writing if you want to keep people reading.
