Will Jon Voight ever work again?

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

I don't really follow politics very closely because as a Libertarian, most of the news that comes out from either side of the political spectrum doesn't really appeal to me and it seems that none of the potential candidates ever really accomplish much of anything. However, it is really easy to notice that a vast majority of celebrities are extremely liberal. Even the ones that are conservative are normally very apprehensive to state their political leanings because of the financial backlash of voicing their opinions.

That being said, I only recently found out that Jon Voight is a strong conservative and a vocal Trump supporter. I don't really care who celebrities like in the political realm and really don't feel as though their opinion should be more highly regarded than your next-door neighbor's. Mostly, i want them to shut up but there is a certain amount of respect I have for anyone in Hollywood that comes forward as a Trump supporter and that isn't because I am, I am not, I am rather indifferent to this president the same as I have been towards all the other ones. I just admire the balls it takes to publicly support someone when you know that by doing so, is almost certainly going to damage your own career.

If I was to ask anyone to make a list of celebrities that hate Trump, you could probably fill up an A-4 sheet of paper pretty quickly but if I was to ask the same in reverse, you would struggle to fill an index card. So without using the internets I am going to see how many i can come up with in the next minute by not cheating..

  • Kid Rock
  • Tim Allen
  • Roseanne Barr
  • Dana White

And that is all I could come up with in the one minute. I'll admit that after writing Roseanne, i actually got up to make a protein shake because I was drawing a blank. Dana White really shouldn't be on this list because I don't know if I really consider him to be a celebrity... he is just a really rich guy.

I forgot James Woods! dammit. Well, by his own admission Woods has said in the past that "I don't expect to work in Hollywood anymore" after publicly supporting Trump and I wonder why Voight doesn't care. Despite the fact that I don't think that a person's political leanings should decide if they should be able to work, that is the fact of the matter in entertainment and even though I don't necessarily agree with Voight, i gotta admire someone that sticks to their beliefs even when said beliefs are almost certainly going to have a negative impact on your employment capabilities.

oh I love that scene in Enemy of the State

Without cheating, how many pro-trump celebrities can you think of in one minute? I bet it isn't many...

Sort:

Patricia Heaton, Janine Turner, Gary Sinise, Kristie Swanson, Kelsey Grammer are a few. What do they all have in common? Once they come out it basically kills their careers. Clint Eastwood is about the only one who could weather being a Hollywood Republican and keep working just because he was so well established.

good job... that was all just off the top of your head? I'm impressed but now also remember Grammer saying that as well as Eastwood. I just couldn't think of it when I put myself on the spot.

Yeah. When they poke their head out, they kinda paint a target on their backs and they stand out.

I think politics should be left at the door and it shouldn't have any effect on someones career. When I saw your list and got to Roseanne who is nothing and just has a big mouth. I realise Trump isn't everyone's cup of tea but at least he is the opposite in many ways to Obama. if America had Obama for another 4 or 8 years imagine the problems that would be happening.

Trump is a man that obviously seems to blunt for people doesn't really know the onus of politics, in my opening he isn't someone that is loved because the American people wants a show of selflessness and you know this guy doesn't have it, exactly why you'd fill an A4 of people who hates him.

You are right, I can't think of that many. Not that are A list anyway. Ted Nugent probably. It's funny though, every time I see Jon Voight I immediately think of the episode of Seinfeld where George thinks he bought his old car. It's definitely a classic.
