Prostitutes plays a part of every country's society. It does not matter whether it is a prosperous or impoverished country, prostitutes will always have a role to play in the society.
I guess I no longer have to define what a prostitute does. But for the sake of the readers who confuses their dad's mistress for a prostitute, here's a little description. Prostitutes sell their body, time and companionship to an assortment of creeps in exchange for money or sexual desires. If she is owned by a pimp, majority of her wage goes directly to that scumbag (pimp).
I will avoid being irrational in this article and try to put myself in a prostitute's shoes.
IMAGINE - I am a prostitute.
Motivation. I am going to need an ample amount of guts for this kind of livelihood.
What motivates me?
Money. This will be a primary reason for me to become a prostitute. If I was not given the proper education, my family starves, or did not have a supportive unit of family, a career will be scarce from my view. In order for me to cope up, struggle for survival, I will take the easy way out - Prostitution. But this is not just about providing bread for an empty stomach. Addiction to certain drugs can be the reason why I am drawn to prostitution. The need to provide my needs. Wanting more but not having enough.
Sexual Motivation. This is rare. Presenting my body to random people in exchange for pleasure is a rare type of disease (?). Filling in my sexual pleasures through prostitution and money just comes in next is a rare type. I agree, this can be a sign of psychological dilemma. No person, even I, on its conscientious mind will scavenge the streets to find a mate that will primarily fill her sexual needs. Behavior of a nymphomaniac (sex addict).

Most prostitutes, don't go out one day and say "I'm going to be a prostitute!"
It's not that simple.
The typical course of things starts much more gradual. A young girl/boy has a friend, sister, brother, parent (yes even parent), that tells them about some new job, opportunity, way to earn a bit, etc.
It may be singing, dancing, modeling, waitressing, anything really. Usually it's something that feeds into the individuals sense of their own imperfections, What is wrong with them, what they wish they could be, what people could see, they want to be beautiful, sing like a bluejay, dance like an angel.
And the people tell them they are almost there, or they are already there. They are perfect, they are splendid, they are gods gift to humanity! They'd be perfect for this job or that, it's nothing bad, they'll just do what they love and be appreciated for it!.
...Except that is a lie. It was a setup from the start. Step by step, little baby movements one at a time, influenced by the environment, the other people around them that expect, or have already experienced it, weeks, months, years later. They don't recognize themselves.
Not that long ago they would NEVER even consider doing this or that. Now it's no big thing. The baby steps led them to where they are, one little piece at a time, they were desensitized, socially conditioned, and now they have a mindset that those not in the industry just don't understand!.
It's a gradual process, many do drugs yes, many also don't. I'll tell you one thing though, 90% of them did not touch drugs until AFTER they were in the scene. The drugs did not push them there, they're a side-effect of being there. Trying to forget and drown out the voice of themselves before they fell down the rabbit hole and lost themselves....
I am with you on the survival thing. I don't want to say anything negative about them because I don't know their stories. It may look bad to other people but I know they have no other way out. Maybe. Bless them.
