Berlin 1945

This is neither Syria nor Afghanistan. This photograph shows what is left of the german capital Berlin after the allied forces bombed it in early 1945. I believe this photograph has been artificially colored. It is unknown who made this photograph and who colored it. The reason behind these bombings was mainly to enable the allied artillery to proceed to the nazi headquarters in the heart of the city, to capture Adolf Hitler. At this stage, the fascist army was already heavily weakened, but the bombings exercised additional pressure on the leaders of the Third Reich.

Note that this photograph has been artificially colored. It is unknown who made this photograph and who colored it.

I am starting a new series about historic photographs, titled "Witness History", in which i will show and comment some of the photographs from my collection. The goal is to deliver an insight into the events that led to today. Every photograph will be accompanied by additional informations and explications. If you are interested in this series, feel free to follow me and stay up to date on my newest posts.
