The Future of Comedy: Podcasts and Podcast Networks

in #blog7 years ago

If you didn't know,

I am big watcher of podcasts. Yes your eyes did not deceive you, I said WATCHER. I know that most people listen to them, but I prefer the visual aspect if available. It's sort of like watching a talk show or radio show. If anyone is familiar, shows like Howard Stern, The Breakfast Club, and Sam and Jim have a lot of similarities with video podcasts.

Around 50% of communication is nonverbal. If this is the case, you lose half of the content when you are purely an audio listener! There are always moments where all the voices laugh, and you can't SEE what's so funny. Usually its a funny face or something said off-mic. If you're listening, you'll be left wondering, "What the heck just happened?" But if you're watching, you get to experience it fully and you won't miss a beat!

Enough about that! Now I want to talk about the podcasts that I watch and why I think it's an awesome form of media. I am a subscriber to Gas Digitial a podcast network created by comedian Luis J. Gomez and radio personality Ralph Sutton. They banded together to create a podcast network where people were free to express their views, crack jokes, and get downright crazy for the sake of comedy and entertainment. There are comedy shows, interviews, story-telling podcasts, political discussions, and there's even a podcast hosted by world famous pornstar Lisa Ann.

I am a huge fan of most of the shows on the network but my absolute favorite is Legion of Skanks. It is downright the most ridiculous and hilarious stuff I have ever heard/seen in my life. If you have no fear, check it out. They upload weekly clips on YouTube, or you can check out the last 10 episodes for free on Itunes. You will not be disappointed, only offended and upset!

But unfortunately, podcasts don't seem to make people much money. Especially when they are all up for free on ITunes. Doing work and getting millions of downloads, with nothing to show for it must be a bummer! To combat this, groups of podcasts team up to create podcast networks. Like Gas Digital, you pay a subscription fee for unlimited access to all their current and past content. It is totally worth it, because in the end, you are directly supporting the people who's content you wish to consume.

It is important to provide a platform for people to speak freely. It is also important to have a platform where you can monetize your content and art. That is why I love Steemit and Dtube so much. Censorship free and honest.

What are your favorite podcasts? Do you listen to any on the Gas Digital Network? Let me know in the comments below! I'm always looking for more hilarious stuff to check out.

Thanks for checking out my latest post :)

Yooo we should def do some Steem talks next time I'm in town.

I love both those podcasts.

Duncan Trussel's episode of Legion of Skanks is unbelievably funny.

I don't think I've listened to music in the car nearly at all the past few months, been hooked on podcasts nonstop. There are just so many, it's never-ending.

Heck yeah! It insane. Ever person has a podcast. There are more than there are hours in a lifetime to check them all out haha
