No doubts, blogging is both rewarding and fun, at least for those who for those who master this skill and break through the market.
But break trough is a pretty hard thing to do for any beginner, mostly because there's not enough info available and tons of bad advice.
With that in mind, let's go trough some of the most common misconceptions about blogging:
Blogging is easy
Or is it? In reality, blogging requires plenty of research, marketing, networking, social interaction, re-writing and staring at the blank paper. Even though it is fun and provides a lot of freedom, it’s important not to underestimate the hard work required to build a successful blog and make a brand out of it.Good content is enough
Although good content is a great must if you want to build a great business from it, it is simply not enough.
That's actually one of most common reasons why new businesses fail. It's a general opinion that if you build it, customers will come just like that.
Simply writing a good content and letting a nature takes it's own course is NOT ENOUGH.
You have to spend a great amount of time on promoting it.Take a small niche with small competition and dominate it
This blogging misconception may be cleared with simple real life example
Let's say you are a fisherman. Would you rather:
-Go fishing in the sea or ocean where there's plenty of people fishing successfully with tons of fish to catch, or
-Go to a puddle where there is only 1 fisherman...you?Traffic only comes from Google
Yeah, and I'm a squirrel.
Google is great at making people believe that they are the best or easiest way to drive traffic to your blog.
In reality, most blogs use social media to attract more readers. Word of mouth, influencers and recommendations are far more easier to gain.
And, of course, guest blogging!!! The only reason for Neil Patel's big success.
Getting traffic from Google is becoming harder and harder thing to do and it takes plenty of time until you reach that point where Google recognizes your quality. It's better to start with a free site than buy your own domain and hosting right away
Oh boy, this couldn't be more wrong. The very fist moment you post your blog is when your business starts.
You are building your reputation and brand. You need your own domain name, not a subdomain on platform that offers free website.
Reason for this belief is because people are not serious about this kind of work.
Maybe they have doubt about their writing skills, or maybe they just think that blogging is a waste of time.
But, the first one can be easily improved and the second one is proved wrong...with almost 200 million blogs today, they wouldn't be doing it if it was a waste of time
