I am a woman in her 40’s, but my brain thinks like I am still young and in her 20’s. (Why does it do that? It’s like it is lulling me into a false sense of security.)
I am from a working-class family and have been brought up in a church school. Then a local comprehensive senior school. I left school with moderate GCSE’s and my first full-time job was in a shop then took the civil service exam and started working within the Police force as a civil servant.
I had my first child at 20. always working. when my son was a year old I went to work at Heathrow for British Airways in the engineering department as a support worker for the engineers. on having my second son I gave up work and went to night school to ear office computers and various courses.
I returned to work after 18 months for my local police force in the finance department. After 6 months, I went full-time. I applied internally for a post within the intelligence department. Where I stayed for 10 years. I now work in a supermarket as a checkout assistant.
I am a single mother of two boys who are both grown up. I am proud of the job I have done as they both have turned out to be fantastic and have done it a lot by themselves. They both have an old head on young shoulders, which is a good job with a mother like me.
I have always worked. Even when my children were young as I always believe no matter what happens in life you can always better yourself. I am doing this blog for many reasons but the primary one is to get rid of my demons and put my life out there so other people can say ‘it’s not just me everything happens too.’
This is my story of how I got here………… But it will never end here. I hope to be making much more as I still plod along merrily with my life……..
Your career has taken you from one end of the ladder to the other - yet you kept working and never gave up, good for you
