Unfollow? No, MUTE !

Cluttered feed

Today was another afternoon when I decided to go over my feed, and do some more curation on new posts. ( I have to admit, I do not do this very often lately).
Yet again there was unpleasant discovery, how much my feed is cluttered with various meaningless and zero value posts. Especially have noticed a huge quantity of such from some places in Asia and even Africa. I started to do UNFOLLOW authors one after another. Very quickly I came to another discovery - a simple "unfollow" may not get the things done. Or even - no somewhat better.

Unfollow? No, better yet - MUTE!

You may ask, why unfollowing may not be enough? Because of resteems ! You may not be following that annoying poster, from nowhere in middle-Asia at all, yet will be seeing his posts. Why? Because somebody is resteeming them. I have learned, there is a number of steemitíans I have on my followed list, and would be happy to keep them here further. However, once in a while, they are doing some weird resteems, for uncertain, often no obviuos reasons. How can I keep these stupid posts, meme's, funny ( really funny?) GIF's and videos away from my eyes? I have no other clue but "MUTE".
It has a double action. By clicking this button, author is both unfollowed+muted.

Steemit is growing at unprecedented rates, the flood of useless posts with ZERO value are growing day after day. We still have no ways to filter ( or search ) for something we like to see in as we do it all on Google. Not even close to that.

So how do we remain in control, what eats out time, our attention ?
Luckily we still have that MUTE button. :)
Without it, my hopes for a better and brighter future on steemit would be noticeably smaller.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU RESTEEM

@onealfa - Sir, I stopped resteem a lot of contents... But I'll resteem your post as usual Sir...

+W+ [UpVoted & ReSteemed]

Thanks a lot for your resteem @steemwija. I sincerelly hope you will not regret 😉

@onealfa - Sir I have no regret to resteem your posts... Your are my one of the most respectful person in this Steemit platform Sir...

+W+

@onealfa sir, this is realy great thinking.thanks for your suggestion for us.

yes and i agree with you for this unfollow and mute and also realy we carefull to resteem any post on our blog without any proper post and reason but resteem is a good option to save some in our memory to make us easy for look
also welcom back @onealfa sir

Sveiki ;)
I do not like unnecessary resteem

Hahaha! Yes I agree that sometimes you must go in and clean out the clutter! Makes for an easier more pleasant experience. I did not, however, realize that re-steems were a culprit as well and will have to look into my feed for this? Thanks for the tip! Enjoyed and learned.

I have never used the Mute button before.
I thought I was the only one noticing that. There's a lot of users with meaningless value posts and they copy and paste for the sake of getting SBDs.
Thanks for the tip thou. :-)

yes these two options are good in steemit but if we want to make secret our post from any person is not possible in steemit and the privacy in steemit is a matter and i hope and want an more option that mute our own posts from othes if we want to save our post from any person

To me this is yet better than nothing. To make our posts to be (un)seen by a specific viewers is probably much more hard to achieve. If possible at all.

That is actually a very good use of Mute button! I never used it myself, but I'll remember now.

The unfollowing this is something we all have to do from time to time. And I actually do it as I see something I don't like.
Though I think it shouldn't happen. If i do select who I want to follow means I liked their content for some reason. So they changed and started posting something completely unrelated?

We all make mistakes when we lack an experience. I may got many on my list during first few weeks on steemit. Some are there, but I have no idea how and why are them included. :)

Yea... some people say go follow all the big fishes it's good for you!
And them we have all kinds of posts on the feed unrelated to out interest....

Good we can unfollow ;)

I had some time without steemit, working on my projects for the semester. And when i came back... It was like i've never been here, people posting almost random stuff here and there, people spamming on the posts for following and upvotes... Money attracts all kinds of people.
Cheers dude! Good post!

I do not like unnecessary resteem,,,--%%%$%$#@

Very good strategy. I need to do this also. Thanks for the post.

Thank you for your post so as a new user now I know what kind of things could annoy senior members and what mistakes I don't have to make. This could be real alarming suitation for those who don't put work on their posts and are here just for quick bucks.
As I joined steemit five days ago so just upvoted and followed you to not miss out the interesting content coming from your side in future.
@suf1an

The most annoying ones are those that dont read the post and they put out SPAM comments.

For those we got a cure - a FLAG 😀

I rarely flag users but yes the spam replies are very annoying perhaps I will start flagging the serial offenders.

I've even seen some Steemians warning others initially to make them aware to remove their spam comments on their own, so they don't need to flag them. This might be a bit time & energy consuming, but for me it's really a fair way to prevent misunderstandings and gives the opposite the chance to play by the rules or get a brief breakdown of social media manners :)
Of course flagging must go up if spamming does, but I like to see us handling it without it ✌

I have even gone through the New feed and Muted many accounts because of their junk posts.

I just wish I wrote them down or if someone would build an app so you could share a Mute list.

Yeah, agree, there is lots can be done, improved to our experience, and to UI. Lots of room to act for all the programmers, computer geeks. Sorry I'm not the one of them...

I am.
Just don't have the energy and time to start working on STEEMit projects, but I wish I did.

DO IT! What do you need? :)

Time and the energy when I get home to do coding.
I used to be able to do a day of coding and then come home and do more for myself, but then I got married and had kids.

to see you agian after some time it is good and also this post and a advice is really with good start hope we will try to understand the meaning full and raflly posts and will try to not resteem every post sir

Just unfollowed my first person. They were reposting rubbish by the hack conspiracy theorist Graham Hancock.

(carefully ;)@onealfa nicely dealt with this important issue! Good article. I hope it'll help to improve the platform & the content on it. #resteemed

btw, what is the best and direct way for (missing) feature feedback to the dev's?!? Any help or hint is much appreciated :)

This post has received a 3.01 % upvote from @drotto thanks to: @onealfa.

for me it is better unfollowed, but Mute this option is depending on case in specific

that's very helpful post!!
thank you ;)

what do you think.just do it..
your wish
keep it up ..with this

You got a 26.99% upvote from @mercurybot courtesy of @onealfa!

Yes sir , I already stopped resteem a lot of contents.Your post is very good. Thanks for sharing.

sir you flaged my photo. 😞😞
i didnt do anything wrong. i take all of those photo with my mobile and you did this. thats to bad for me. i am a newbie photographer. photography is my passion. and you did this to me. i am soo upset. you flaged my 4 photo & all of those photo was taken by me. cheetah and steemcleaner are always ready to report copyright post. i also invest some steem on my post for growing. your report also minus my reputation lvl. i am soo upset. its all by totally your mistakes. please sir help me growing.
i will be thankfull.@onealfa

thank you

The thing is though, if you mute us new guys and gals at the start, because we do not meet the requirements you expect, after we migrated here, like I did from facebook, and then we grow, and evolve like I hope I have in the 2 weeks I have been here, you might be muting a future gem, it is a steep learning curve, evolving from quick posts for friends, and simplified text talk, to having to think about what you post, and what value you add to the community, please do not mute us all, if you do, we will never grow, and give up on striving to be better, humbly yours, Darren. ;-)

Thank you, great tip! I was wondering about how to limit all the useless stuff I have to scroll through.

I came to same conclusion for different reasons than yours.

Oh so i think i am not the same who is feeling bored due to that the home page feed is full of resteems that is why i never resteem any content :( i feel sad but you have to make your own blog too
anyways i think i forget to wish you a happy new year seeing your post after a very long time have a great year ahead :D

i will be very careful from now on to resteem :)

Great post for information that doesn't change no matter what in steemit! I am highly careful what I resteem because in my opinion when one resteems something ti's like them saying they totally agree with the post as if they wrote/posted it when one resteems it. I don't like others speaking for me because I can speak for myself and if I wanted I could throw my two steem dollars in there and write a post about it. Thanks for the suggestion of the mute button in additional to unfollowing people because I've ran into the same issue where their posts keep popping up. Is it just me or is it highly annoying the people who only resteem others posts and posts no valuable content themselves and then begs you to go to their posts and vote and resteem from them. I have been biting my fingers over it but now I can try your mute strategy! Thanks again!

Nice sir @onealfa. Follow me @muyassir sir.
