Sometimes people ask me
How many days in North Carolina do you have ride able conditions.
or
How many days do you spend on the water?
I was never sure how to answer it really. So I decided to start keeping a journal. Otherwise, each session kind of runs in to the one before and I have no way of quantifying my experiences on the water. One thing I do know for sure is the answer is ALOT. I spend a lot of time on the water. There are not many days when I cannot either surf or kite surf here in North Carolina.
You see, kiting and surfing are really very complimentary. When there is no wind there is usually some swell in the water and the waves are clean. When there are no waves or the waves are not fun to ride it is usually because the wind has messed them up.
And so, here is some data from my very own WATER LOG
# of days on the water / total days in the month
January -12 / 31
February- 7 / 28
March- 16 / 31
April- 12 / 31
May -21 / 31
June- 21 / 31
July- 18 / 31
August- 13 / 31
September- 13 / 30
October -15 / 30
November -13 / 30
December- 12 / 31
The total days on the water
173 / 365 . NOT BAD!
In June 70% of my days were spent on the water!
I encourage you to also keep track of your days on the water and actually to journal in general. It is a powerful tool.
