Day 90: We Need to Talk

in #blog7 years ago

Day 90! I have officially been blogging every day for the past three months straight. It is surreal to me that this little writing exercise I started back in June turned into this. Receiving comments and private messages from all of you is such an awesome feeling. I would never have guessed so many people would like hearing my story. As I am writing this, my blog has over 5500 views and that is not counting the views from the various other sites I upload too. I am devoted to making this little community grow into something great but I need to implement a couple changes to the blog for my own health.

The bad:

My arm that I use to type has been struggling for the past two weeks and it needs time to rest. It kills me to admit this because I wanted to prove to myself I could go all the way to October 2nd. I don’t want to push my arm to its limits and end up accidentally causing permanent damage. My left arm is one of the last functions I have remaining that has not been taken away from me by SMA. Losing function in my right arm was a tough pill to swallow two years ago, I can’t even imagine losing my left.

This is the harsh reality of my disease and I try to not talk about it much. The public image of people with SMA (and Neuromuscular diseases) has always been one of pity. This is a side-effect from years of telethons portraying us in that light. Through my writing and in person, I always try to curve people’s image of us. I am going off on a tangent now. What I am trying to say is, please don’t feel bad for me because of my arm not wanting to cooperate with me.

The good:

I am going to continue blogging every day until I hit day 100. This is for my own sanity because I want to be able to say “I blogged for 100 consecutive days”. It is not the 122 I originally set out to do but it is damn close.

Now, what is my new schedule? This part is still up for discussion but I am thinking Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will be reserved for something artsy. With this new schedule, I should be able to deliver higher quality content while also adventuring into more artsy forms of writing. I am interested in trying my hand at poetry and I would like to take you on my journey through learning it. Let me know your thoughts on this in the comments below.

One last thing! I have been trying my hardest to not fall into this niché but it seems I need to embrace the truth. I am a lifestyle blogger with a focus on disability. Over the last couple of weeks, I have talked to a handful of people about this and they all agreed my most interesting articles all pertain to my disability. It seems to be my calling. This means the majority of my writing will be heavily focused on anything to do with disability. My goal is to educate and hopefully give you a little look into my life. All I ask is please do not refer to me as an advocate.

Wrap up:

I was going to announce next months book but I think I should dedicate tomorrow’s post to that. Sorry for the bad news in this post. I promise you all this blog will continue to grow and get better with each passing challenge. I hope you have a beautiful day and like always, I will be back tomorrow with another post.

I am so glad I came across your blog, going for 100 days straight is really admirable. It can be so hard to write everyday, I know I couldn't do it for 90 days, let alone the full 100! I'm pulling for you to make it. BTW...
