Who Am I Prepping For?

in #blog7 years ago

It seems like a simple question, right? Wrong. This is the most complex question of all. Most people assume it means their family and closest friends, but there is a lot more to consider. A lot trickier than you think.

When figuring out whom you are prepping for, it is best to start by building a responsibility list. List out the people that you are most responsible for. Start with your immediate family and then others that you are either prepping with or for.

If you have an elderly neighbor, you might consider being able to have what he or she might need in a disaster.

The elderly are a lot more likely to have a difficult time in summer heat or winter cold without power. Are you prepping for someone like that?

What about pets, can’t forget them.

Make a list of all the people you are responsible for and plan accordingly. You might only have to help some of them in certain scenarios, so know whom you need to prep for depending on what happens.

Now the tricky part we mentioned. When you are prepping, you also need to prep for the unwanted. People who may come and try and take your supplies.    For some preppers, they have an arsenal of weapons and that is how they plan to hold their supplies.

If you don’t have guns and know how to use them, then you should really consider other options for defending your families and supplies.   For some people, they want to become invisible to potential threats. They prep for unwanted guests by figuring out how to blend in or create places to hide if a threat arrives.

It is really important that you not only prep for the people you are trying to keep safe, but also prepare for the people that may come around uninvited.  Sometimes having a separate stash of food in your pantry could fool unsuspecting thieves.

When you really know who you are prepping for is when you can fully understand what you need and figure out how you're going to do it. Prepping isn't always easy, but it sure is fun.

How many people are you prepping for?
