HG asks NYC - Episode 2 | How much is this artwork worth?

in #blog7 years ago

Salvator Mundi is a painting of Christ as Salvator Mundi by Leonardo da Vinci, dated to c. 1500. The painting shows Jesus, in Renaissance dress, giving a benediction with his raised right hand.It was sold at an auction by Christie's in New York City, on 15 November 2017, for $450.3 million, setting a new record for the most expensive painting ever sold in art history. So, we went on the streets of New York, to see who knew how much the painting is worth.

In 2005, New York art dealer Alexander Parish purchased the Salvator Mundi oil painting for a bargain price of $10,000. In 2013, Parish authenticated the work of art, making him and a consortium of fellow dealers sell it to Yves Bouvier in a private Sotheby’s sale for about $75–80 million. Later that year, Bouvier turns around and sells it for $127.5 million to the Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev. This year Rybolovlev puts the painting up for sale at Christie’s. And it fetches $450.3 million. Maybe you will consider investing in art?
