The main problem with the so-called Islamic education with contemporaries is to deify the tradition(which had never been a homogeneous athmosphere in itself) as though what was written in the past was superhistorical and not a part of certain sphere of perception of reality. .
What was written in the 8-9th century is not what was written in the 13-14th century(we have things the learn from the latter in the sense how they managed to read the texts of 8-9th centuries and use the data to find a way to answer their own questions) and what was being discussed in Hejaz is not what was being discussed in Transoxiana.
.
What made them pioneers of a tradition was their quest of answer to the questions that they had. Today the world that we live in is not the same world that Ibn Sina lived in as well as it, for example, wasn't the same world Ibn Khaldun lived in, so the questions that we have are not supposed to be the same.
