Today I was going for a run with a friend. The plan was to go for the long 16km round, but in all the chatter we got lost. We kept running east instead of west, and what prevented us from really checking our phones were these fucking flying parasites called deer fly. Once we stopped we were attacked by hoardes of these buggers. And they attack immediately. And they are almost impossible to kill. You have to get them between your fingers and squeeze real hard.
But after a while we found a nice big field and a little less deer flies attacking us, and we had been running the wrong way for a long time, and we were almost out of the county. Luckily we found a nice gravel road that lead back to the main road and we decided to just run alongside the road home instead of continuing the forest trail. If we had done that it would have been a 20km run, and we were not quite ready for that today.
Yeah, and I stepped on a snake. A young specimen. The only poisonous snake in Norway- a common european viper.
Adult viper
the first pic is outstanding....sorry to hear about your adventure...but keep in mind one day you will remember what you've been through and you will laugh
I've never seen the deer fly ... read about it on Wikipedia and other sources after your previous post. Horrid things!
Yeah..they must be kind of new. Ran into some like 6-7 years ago, and after than theyve always been around in the autumn. They are like regular flue but uglier and they lower themselves onto your skin so you cant just brush them off. You have to pinch them with your fingernails and then rub them between your fingers. Real discusting.
Haha, but what kind of worm is that.
Common Viper
Vipera berus, the common European adder[3] or common European viper,[4] is a venomous snake that is extremely widespread and can be found throughout most of Western Europe and as far as East Asia
When they say worm, I think about this.
Yeah..me too. :D
Wow!
What an adventure.... Those bugs looks really disgusting... nothing like that around here on Mexico (as far a I know).
A different history with the snakes... Around here there are lot of cascabel and coral snakes... When I ran on trails I've only hear them when I pass and they tend to just scape.
Is that pic from the wood you usually run?
No..I should probably add that..pixabay :)
You dont have ticks either? We have those bloodsuckers as well..no bears in this disctrict thou..only wolves. :)
Damn ! Stepped on a snake 🐍 it’s always something I’m a bit scared off when running in the forest.
Never really thought of it..I always pictured them resting on rocks or in the middle of gravel roads licking sun. because thats where Ive seen them before..but I can confirm that snakes live in the forest as well :D
Omg! What a day you had! Those flying deer parasites are not good and neither is the snake, lol! I'm glad you are ok!
