In the U.S., they don't serve a big meal on New Year's Day. But why actually? It's because of the hearty food that was already served on Dec. 32. Due to food on New Year's Day is usually eaten a linzensuppe, but there are also other foods that are served such as Hoppin John.
In addition, there are the good intentions that Americans take on. Almost 70 percent of Americans make new resolutions at the beginning of the year, such as to stop smoking or to find more hobbies. But nearly 80 percent of Americans lose their resolutions after just one month.
In america, the so-called new year's eve hymn is also played and sung at midnight. The Scottish poet Robert Burns wrote this song in the 18th century.
