AVOCADO & TUNA TAR TAR RICE BOWL - TUNA-IN FOR A GREAT RECIPE POST

in #blog8 years ago

I love avocado. I also love raw tuna. So naturally, I love avocado & tuna together! Simple math, right?

After having rekindled my love for the combination of the both at a dinner party recently, I was certain I wanted to give this a try at home.

Unfortunately there was always something scaring me away from raw food… especially raw fish. Having heard one too many horror stories of food poisoning from bad sushi, I always kept a safe distance from handling raw fish (that never stopped me from eating it however!).

Still, after several yummy encounters during my travels that contained the combination, I decided it was time to live up to the challenge and finally go face to face (or mouth to belly) with tuna .

Raw. *cue dramatic music here* Now I know you are envisioning me fighting a huge tuna in tropical waters, but before you get too carried away, lets get a’cookin’ you good lookin’!

Avocado & Tuna Tar Tar Rice Bowl
To serve 2 portions.

Ingredients:200g of quinoa or basmati rice
1 avocado
200g sushi grade tuna*
approx. 2 tbsp. mayonnaise
approx. 2 tbsp. soy sauce
approx. a squeeze of Wasabi
approx. 2 tbsp. sesame seeds
half a lemon

Directions: Cook your quinoa/rice separately according to the instructions.

While your rice is cooking, grab a smaller frying pan and toast your sesame seeds.

Make sure you keep turning the pan so the sesame seeds don’t burn. Stop when you try a seed and it has a crunchy texture to it but is not burnt yet.

Put to the side.

Then, grab a bowl.In this bowl, mix together your mayonnaise, soy sauce, and wasabi. Only put a little amount of wasabi if you cannot handle too much spice and taste a tiny bit of the mixture, stopping at the desired taste.

Peel and cut your avocado in small cubes and places the cubes in the bowl.

Grab your tuna and cut them into equally sized cubes and also add these to the bowl.

Toss lightly, as raw tuna is more delicate and you want the cubes to look nice.

Once your rice is fully cooked, it’s time to plate up!

Grab a bowl, and add some quinoa/rice to the bottom of the bowl.

Top with the avocado and tuna mixture, making sure to scoop some of the sauce mixture on top as well. If you do not have enough sauce, you can always quickly mix some more together and add to the bowl.

Squeeze some lemon juice on top.

For the last finishing touches, top the rice & avocado tuna bowl with your toasted sesame seeds.

Just for garnish and extra flavor, (cause, who doesn’t want that?) add some sprigs or chopped cilantro on top.

Et voila!

Bon Appétit!

Tuna-in for more recipes in the future!

Ready to taste your dish, Rosalina :)

Now I'm starving for that! One of my favorites, though I don't use mayonnaise. So very on trend with poke places!

Yum! Unfortunately, we can't find fresh tuna steaks in Cambodia :-( Def making this when I'm going to Belgium at the end of the year!
