DONGHUAMEN NIGHT MARKET - BEIJING

in #blog8 years ago

The Dongjuamen Night Market is a famous food market in Beijing. You can find a row full of unusual food stalls, including Chinese delicacies.

The food market is only open during the night time, so after a long day of exploring the Forbidden City, my stomach was grumbling. I decided I would head over there as the sun started to set to have a peek and see how adventurous I would be.

Delicacies include deep fried crikets, centipedes, worms, scorpions, lizards, snakes and frogs on a stick, and even sheep’s particular parts (yum!).

Have a look for yourself, why dont you?

Some delicious frog perhaps?

Snakes for the lady?

The delicious delicacy of octopus (or some other tenticular animal…).

Starfish! Enough said. Please no not ask me how you attempt to eat this as it looks hard as rock to me.

selection of snake, crickets, centipedes, and other options.

Yum!

Just kidding, I did not actually try any of those, but they sure were fun to look at.

They thankfully also had some variety of more Western friendly foods, such as spring rolls, dumplings, candied fruit (this one was yum for real!).

Some candied fruit? I thought this one of the safer options for me to try and I am glad I did1 Plus its fruit, so its healthy (ignoring the part where it is dipped in caramelized sugar).

Some sausages.

Tofu! This was delicious!

Potato skins that looks sooo cool! May attempt this at home once.

Noodles?

I dont know what this is….

Barbecued crab

The cutest dumplings I have ever seen in my life!

These pork filled buns were amazing. The bun is so tender and the meat was deliciously savoury and I inhaled it in no time.

Some dumplings and steamed crab.

And this lady waving some creepy looking alien thing around in your face yelling in Mandarin for you to try it!

While I did not satiate my hunger at the food market, I sure saw all sorts of interesting food options. For those of you more daring (and hopefully with a stronger stomach) go check out the Donghuamen Night Market. It is definitely a sight you must see and experience if you happen to be in Beijing.

Phew! Now that those pictures are over, I hope I did not kill your appetite! If I did, I apologize sincerely and don’t worry, because I’ll make it up to you shortly, promise!
