Dear Steemit,
Jessica is the most realistic and well rounded characters in the show. She is a teenager. A cheerleading, cute boy loving, friend backstabbing teenager.
She appears first on the tapes as someone who hurt Hannah. After Alex's list, Jessica's insecurity and jealously turned her against Hannah. She needed someone to blame. The slap was a little excessive but I can forgive her for making a bad judgement. What high school girl doesn't have low self esteem and sees other girls as her competition.
They weren't friends after that, but Jessica must have known what she did was wrong. They forgave each other but still there was a wedge between them. They were very different people, so their friendship did look a little odd. But, I think they brought out the best in each other. Plus Jessica was just a bitchier version of Kat who was Hannah's real friend.
But Jessica was still a good person at heart. After the teenage years I think she would have become a respectable person too. She did not deserve what she got on the later tapes, at all.
Her boyfriend betrayed her, Bryce assaulted her, and everyone who listened to the tapes doesn't even comment on it. Justin lies to protect her, and himself too, and because of this she can't even move on and heal from what happened. A voice at the back of her head is telling her something is wrong, but everyone around her ignores it. They even commented on how she clearly wasn't okay, and getting worse. Clay is the only one who attempts to confront her, which is obviously not an easy thing to do, but for god's sake they should have tried!
Hannah admits she let Jessica down, but so did everyone else. Jessica was made to be a victim longer than just that night. I think one of the most powerful part of the show was when Jessica left Justin at the end. I can't wait to see how she's doing in season two.
I love that series :D.
