Daily Dose of Sultnpapper 05/06/18> Today is the day… Blondie’s day.

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

The day we have all been awaiting is now here, and when I say “all” , that includes ya’ll too. That’s right you are part of my family.

As an older fellow with a younger wife I have some advantages and disadvantages if you can believe that, or not. I won’t list them all right now because it is 3:15 AM and I really should be asleep right now instead of writing our daily dose.

In less than eight hours Blondie will be confirmed into our local church as a member of the Christian faith that is a big deal for our family. She is the second of our four children who will be confirmed in the church, she is also a sixth generation family member on my wife’s side of the family, to claim the church as her own. My wife’s family is one of the founding families of the church that was founded in 1872 and our children may very well be final generation that claims this church as theirs.

As the area has grown and the family property that was once pretty extensive has been subdivided and sold off for shopping centers and subdivisions continues to shrink, less family has remained here. Of my wife’s generation only her and her cousin Lyle are left as members of the church, all the others have moved away or dropped out of the church.

Of the advantages I have one is; I know that I made the right decision on waiting for just the right person to come into my life before I got married and started raising a family. So if I did nothing else right and least I got that one correct.

There is also a disadvantage that goes along with that, like marrying into a family with deep roots and long family traditions makes it harder to leave when you are among the last ones standing. My wife’s father is in his late eighties now and he isn’t in the greatest of health and quite honestly we have been making plans to leave this area when he passes on. Having our second child confirmed into the church today is going to make those plans of leaving more difficult.

The wife and I are going to have a tough decision should he pass away before our children become adults, and that is very likely he will. We will be put where we have to decide to uproot the family and leave or at least stay until the kids can be self sufficient and make the decision to stay here on their own if they chose too.

Luckily for me, my wife’s cousin Lyle became a father last June of twins, a boy and girl pair of babies. That little pair has become my winning hand so to speak, there is no way that I can end up killing the family ties to the church as long as Lyle and his family remain in the area.

This has become a real life poker game, if you will.

Lyle is up in years like me and his wife isn’t from here, she’s from the San Antonio area, so if something happened to him she might very well head back to where her family stays. Now, I need to keep an eye on my father in law’s health and Lyle’s health because if either of them kicks the bucket soon; the price of poker will have gone up.

One last thing, Friday night the local Girl Scout council had their awards recognition banquet. I am pleased to tell you that Shortie was indeed one of the top sellers of Girl Scout cookies for the area. I thought that she would be eight or nine on the list but she did so much better than that finishing fourth, with over 1,100 boxes sold. Finishing fourth out of over 3,000 girls is pretty darn good in anyone’s book. Tip of the hat to my little sales girl, Shortie. Well done baby girl, well done.

But right now I need to get back to sleep or I am not going to be able to enjoy the day like I should do.

Until next time,

@sultnpapper

Thank you, Blondie will be pleased that she was the focus and that this post was selected as a stop.

Congrats to Blondie and Cookie! Roots are tricky things...... My hubby and I had always thought we'd move out of the city when the kids grew up and moved out. Well we are still here...and so are our grandkids. Good luck with your poker game!

I'll pass those congratulations along to them, Thanks. Plans are like rules, some are made to be broken. Also thanks for checking in here, your support is very much appreciated.

Wow, that's a lot of cookies! Good for her, being so ambitious! 😊

She definitely worked hard for that achievement, and cheap medallion.

This is so great! Blondie has to be proud of her achievement. You too! We all get caught up in what we should do with our lives. Do we stay, do we move on, do we wait for the kids to grow up. My hubby and I had that conversation over 20 years ago. We made the decision to move and live our lives the way we felt the Lord wanted us to. I don't regret the decision one iota. Best decision we ever made. If we had stayed we would be living our lives to please other folks...

We know we won't be going anywhere until her father is no longer with us. He needs us to look out for him and he is the only living grandparent the kids have left so we aren't going to change until after that happens. My wife's brother and sister won't do anything to help him and that's fine, because we have cut ties with those two already. The less we see of them the better for us.
I'll pass the congratulations along to Blondie.

I hope there's no family resemblance between MrsPapper and her cousin Lyle. I mean he's a great guy and all. And looks aren't everything. But srsly.

(In my imagination, putting a blonde wig on "cousin Lyle" ... and all I can say is ... "shudder.")

No, you would never know they are related by looking at them. He truly is a great guy and I think his physical appearance probably helped him in his career rather than hurt him.

I know. Miguel Ferrer and George Clooney are first cousins, too. (OMG!!) I just remember walking through an airport one afternoon years back -- don't even remember which one -- when I saw that People magazine on a newsstand ... and stopped dead in my tracks as I took in the news. I said right out loud, "Oh, my God, she married Lyle ******? " And a woman passing by, a complete stranger smiled and said, "I know. I can't believe it either."

Que sera, sera.

I was invited to that wedding and I didn't go. That People Magazine cover and other photos from that wedding caused a big family uproar, since it was my future sister in law who sold People the photos for $100,000 and change.

First off, congratulations to both Shortie and Blondie. Those are big both big deals and coming within a day and a half of one another probably caused a pretty big swirl in your life.

Looks to me like you have the winning hand before the draw. We both know what that means. The other two players still in the game can draw out, but you are sitting pat maybe 70% of the time. If you would put me in that position for 1000 consecutive hands I'd take it.

The problem being is this hand isn't related to the last one or the next one. So you gotta play this one. I still like your position.

Not much going here. Took a Tic off Sam yesterday, may have started the medication for him a couple weeks late. He doesn't know it, but he's only 3 days away from Summer Camp in Wisconsin. That ought to be interesting for us both.

Thanks Tom. I'll pass those congratulations along as both are well deserved. Everything went smoothly and we couldn't have had a better day. Lyle is on the road finishing up touring for the spring so he missed today, but I made it a point to sit next to mother at the dinner so I could pick up any little bits of information that I could.
So do you ship Sam north for summer camp or do you all pick up and go for the summer to Wisconsin?
I hate tics, Lyme disease can be very debilitating and hard to diagnose for humans, they are one of the creatures that I could do without if I ran the world.

Well written, and the both the simplicity and composition of your shot gave me an inexplicable moment of catharsis, lol.

Look forward to reading watching your family grow.

Hope you catch up on sleep!

Looking forward to having you around as well. I'm not certain if this is your first daily dose, but I can't recall seeing you here before, so Welcome .
There is more than just family stuff here normally, it is usually my take on life and the things around me on any given day. So there is a pretty fair variety of subjects you find here, I especially like pointing out just how screwed up things have become and the reasons behind it.
I will say, I did catch up this afternoon on the sleep, I took a three hour nap after our celebration dinner and missed the start of the Sunday Free Roll poker game over at Steem Poker League. I seldom miss those so that will tell you how much that nap was needed.
Thanks again for dropping in and making your presence known to us.

Congratulations to both Blondie and Shorty mr Papper!

Thanks Lizelle, I will pass those on to both girls.
