Hello everyone,i would like to tell about trypanosoma brucei parasites.there are two types that causes T.gambiense(west african) and T.rhodensie(east african) they causes sleeping sickness. They are transmitted by tse-tse fly.
T.gambiense causes winterbottom sign which is bilateral cervical lymphadenopathy.it exhibits antigenic variation.
Treatment for gambiense in early stages is pentamidine and in late stages in eflornithine+nifurtimox and for T.rhodesiense in early stages is suramin and in later stages is melarsoprol
Trypanosoma cruzi is transmitted by reduvid bug and it causes chagas disease also called american trypanosoma.the features of it are chagoma(entry site edema),romana sign(eyelid swelling),mega esophagus, mega colon, myocarditis, meningoencephalitis.
We have to note one point that humans are reservoir for T.gambiense and not for T.rhodesicense.
Drug of choice for T.cruzi is Benznidazole
Thanks for reading my post,
Yours @summisimeon
