Giligan's Island was a 1964 TV show about seven passengers on a three hour site seeing tour and was lost and stranded on a tropical island. The seven characters on the show made fruitless attempts of escape in almost every episode until the end. The comedy series was written by Sherwood Schwartz and the show lasted three season and 30 episodes before it was canceled in 1967.
Joseph Camball's, "A heroes journey" highlights the relationship of stories that fallow a type of premise that we subconsciously recognize and like. Giligan's Island has taken the premise of the seven deadly sins and put them on an island and for our own entertainment.
Lust: Unbridled sexual desire.
Ginger was a very sexualized character in the show.
Gluttony: The overindulgence and overconsumption of anything to the point of waste.
The Skipper was kind of a fat slob.
Greed: A sin of desire much like lust and gluttony.
The Howells, even stranded on a tropical island, were the most selfish couple in the group.
Wrath: Uncontrollable feeling of hatred and rage.
Mrs. Howell was a very scornful woman.
Sloth: Laziness.
Giligan was always moping around, sleeping and avoiding work.
Envy: Like greed and lust, is characterized by an insatiable desire.
Mary Ann was always jealous of Ginger.
Pride: Ones love themselves, a sense of hubris.
This guy has all day to build a radio out of coconuts amongst other worthless things but could not fix a whole in a boat or fix an engine to rescue them off the island.
They never escaped.
