Some old (taken in 2016) photos of the beautiful village of Napier

This tiny, quirky, calm, artsy village lies at the foot of the Soetmuisberg, between Caledon and Bredasdorp in the Overberg mountain range.

Napier is one of my favorite countryside-villages, due to the beauty and freedom that you will find there.
Napier is also now rated by the Tourism Board as the fourth most attractive village in the Western Cape after Montagu, Greyton and McGregor.

Napier is also known for its blend of century-old cottages and modern houses, surrounded by the rolling farmland which typifies the Overberg region of South Africa, give the village a rural atmosphere.

This is the river that was formed about ten years ago when a great flood came upon Napier. Being the lowest part of Napier, the valley was washed away and this river was formed. The river almost totally dry in the summer, yet every winter the rain comes and restores the river to its former glory. Only three years ago, another flood came, destroyed the bridges crossing the river and gave the public an idea of what the river must have looked like originally.

So if you ever find yourself in South Africa, Western Cape, visit this beautiful town!
