Today I finished watching one of my favorite TV series. And I want to share it with you. It is called "Bates Motel". Bates Motel is an American psychological horror drama television series that aired from March 18, 2013, to April 24, 2017.
The show is based on Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" cult film of 1960 and tells about the life of Norman Bates and his mother Norms to the events known from the first film and the novel by Robert Bloch.
The series is a prehistory of the Hitchcock movie, but its events have been translated into our days. After her husband's death, Norma Bates moves with Norman's teenage son to a quiet town called White Pine Bay in Oregon, where she buys a small motel and a house formerly owned by the Summers family. The next day, Keith Summers, who lost his family nest, comes to the Bates, threatening Norm in any way to expel her from the house. That evening, Cat rushes into the house and rapes Norm. When Norman returns home, they with his mother disarm the attacker, but when Norman goes to the first-aid kit, Norma kills Keith. Getting rid of the body, mother and son are forced to protect the dark secret, and this is not so easy under the picky sight of the local sheriff Alex Romero and his assistant Zak Shelby, with whom the novel begins in Norm. Soon, Bates understands that the motel maintains its own secrets, like a small town: a lovely outside and rotten inside.
Subsequent seasons follow Norman as his mental illness becomes dangerous, and Norma as she struggles to protect her son, and those around him, from himself.
The premiere episode collected a record for the dramatic series of the A & E channel audience - a series of 3 million viewers watched, and the rating was 1.6 in the age category from 18 to 49.
This series is wealthy both as a drama and as a thriller - character relationships develop gradually and vividly, and the growing tension gets its bright finale. Actors cope with their roles in a hurray - each is laid out to the maximum, but Vera Farmiga in the image of a hysterical and tired Norma Bates is beyond praise - in the first 20 minutes of the pilot I managed to hate and love her with all my heart. The authors created an amazing heroine with a deep inner world and a difficult destiny, while Farmiga plays on the verge of a mentally disturbed and Grace Kelly. All this is decorated with wonderful instrumental music by Chris Bacon and well-chosen pop compositions of the past and the present.
As it seems to me, we have one of the most powerful projects of recent years, which manipulates everyday genres and puts incredible events into an exciting story, beautifully played by an excellent actor's ensemble.
Strongly recommend to watch this series. It is really captures and does not leave you indifferent.
