Its been a long time since my last post. I really miss doing this.
Last time I was caught by an enforcer for disregarding traffic sign. I explained to the enforcer that I didn't saw any "No Entry" sign on the area. I tried to plead but unfortunately he gets my license card and gave me a violation ticket.
The next day I went to Makati City Hall to redeem my driving license. It was so tiring and the process is so hassle. After getting my license back, I was too hungry. Luckily, I saw this man preparing his products. I was so curious I immediately ask him. "Manong ano po yan?" (What is that Mister?) "Binalot" he replied. So I ask him to give me one order.
It was a cup of rice with adobo flakes on top wrapped on banana leaves. Wow! It comes with 5 pieces of siomai.

How to eat Binalot
I asked Manong vendor for a spoon and fork but instead, Manong gave me a plastic gloves. It was my first time to eat in "Kamayan way" (eating using hands and without utensils) on the street and on a public place. At first I was shy to start eating. But my stomach can't wait anymore. I was too hungry. The first bite is the best. I slowly chew the rice with siomai. Oh so yummy!
Eating without utensils on the sidewalk and on standing position is something unusual but exciting. You must try it!
The food
The rice is good. It is white, fragrant and soft to chew. It is wrapped in banana leaves that gave a distinct aroma and taste.The chicken adobo flakes have right combination of sweet-sour-spicy-salty taste. The pork siomai is very chunky with soy sauce full of dried garlic bits, few drops of calamansi juice and chili oil. So yummy. It satisfied my hunger and my taste buds.

Thanks to this mobile restaurant, I was able to eat on time. I did not experience headache due to passed hunger. I hope that there will be a lot of these mobile stalls. Better if they have a certification from the authorized government agency that they are allowed to sell foods for the safety of the consumers.

Now that one of the biggest problem of mankind is PLASTIC, this kind of food store is a big help not just to the economy but also to our mother nature. Food wrapped in banana leaves can help the local farmers to earn more. It can also decrease the usage of plastic wrappers and plastic spoons. We are now really coming back to nature. Let us all do our responsibilities and do our best effort to protect and preserve it.

This made me HUNGRY it looks amazing. I know in a better portion of the world banana leaves are used as wrappings all of the time. Unfortunately, I come from the land of plastic and most things fake LOL. I love your idea for areas that can switch to something that is more sustainable. It's actually perfect when you think about it. I helps the banana farmers buy having a 'secondary' income from the leaves. Cheaper for the vendor or restaurant or what have you and then it's biodegradable. Very smart man!!

Hello There @yo-mikhael, do you ask the manong vendor what kind of rice was to make binalot? or do you recognise it? white rice or glutonious rice? binalot remind me to pulot (grilled glutinous rice in my local language, Aceh) or pulut/ketan in Bahasa Indonesia. I am still fascinated by the banana leaf. I never had anything wrapped in banana leaf before. Probably because banana does not grow where I live.

@headchange banana leaves are plenty here in the philippines.we have food here we called "SUMAN" that was made of cassava and wrapped also in banana leaves. i will write something about it next time

After reading your post , i think you should be gradual for the traffic offenses that ended up having a delicious Binalot. You have well described the seller, Binalot ingredient and how it is served. Something I find it odd though, you are are provided with a piece of hand glove?
In my country, we use bare fingers to scoop the food into the mouth
Anyway, the photos presented were clear enough to understand the food as well as the seller ( you too )

great I used to travel to Indonesia in late 2000, and have not visited since.
I have not travel to Philippines though the culture has some similarity with Malaysia ( I think )
I think many of the South East Asia countries has similar culture

Mobile food carts are common in Makati. Some are even in a jeepney thus they call it Jollyjeep. I once tagged along with my team and we had our lunch from one of those Jollyjeeps. It was fun! The crew was fast and attended, plus we saved from our usual lunch budget. 😊
While I agree that we should play our part in waste reduction, I have reservation regarding use of banana leaf, or even paper for that matter. We may be sacrificing bananas and trees while we think we are saving the environment. Come to think of it, where will those food cart vendors get trucks and trucks of banana leaves if everyone will use it? I think the main concern about problem on plastics is our self-discipline of proper disposal plus firmer legislation and execution of waste management by our government.
