Erdos, Father of Discrete Mathematics

in #blog8 years ago (edited)

For my Discrete Math 2 course our professor had us watch a documentary on Paul Erdos titled “N is a Number”, which you can watch on youtube for free, and write a short paper on Erdos. My professor prefaced this by stating that “Paul Erdos basically built the entire field of Discrete Math on his own.” This peaked my interest immediately. Without this mathematician we would have a hard time in the realm of Computer Science. Truth be told the world we lived in would likely be very different.

Erdos wrote many papers on a wide range of mathematical topics and made significant contributions to topics including Ramsey theory, contributed to the creation of modern graph theory, and posed unique conjectures numerous times. If you are studying or interested in Math and Computer Science this documentary is a must see.

I always like the terminology Discrete Math

I agree. Feels kinda arcane.
