A few years ago it seemed like everyone had a blog but now it seems things have started to die down a bit. But can you still make money from blogging? And is it still worth having a blog?
First off - the million dollar question, can you make money from blogging. Well it's definitely not as easy as it used to be. When I first started blogging, you could setup a quick Wordpress blog, add Adsense to it, spam a bunch of blog comments and you'd start making money, as if by magic.
These days it's harder. For starters Adsense cracked down on a lot of the lower quality blogs. Google used to make over 70% of ad revenue from partner sites. That figure is now less than 18% and it looks to be declining even more. Google doesn't want you as a partner anymore.
But there are some things that never changed. Affiliate marketing works just as well now as it used to be. Sure there are disclosure laws and what seems to be more red tape, but it's still a solid money maker. As a full time blogger, 99% of my income comes from affiliate marketing.
I've also seen many more bloggers start creating income sources for themselves. Whether its creating printables, membership sites, or books to sell. And it's not just the same people in the "make money online" space creating these products. They're being created in countless niches and building sustainable businesses.
There are also new platforms. Like Steemit! They give you a ready made audience so you don't need to worry about building it from scratch. And there is potential to make money blogging here as well.
I think blogging is still alive and well. You only need to check out the Blogger links page on myezy to see a stream of income reports from blogs that are making serious income. Blogging might not be as easy as it used to buy you can definitely still make money from it. It might be a little harder - but I think that's a good thing, as the quality blogs are the ones that are succeeding.
