Since life wasn't busy enough we (herself) decided that it was the perfect time to upgrade the sitting room and add a wooden floor instead of the manky old carpet that was there when we moved in.
To be fair it was on our future to do list since the earliest days but i hadn't planned on doing it just yet due to time and budget restraints. Planning a weeding ain't cheap. We're meant to be saving but sometimes the plan changes.
There was a big sale in the flooring shop with up to 50% off. That caught the attention for a start and then the father in law lined up his friend to do it so it was hard to refuse. When your getting a great deal you might as well go for it.
Unfortunately we only had two weeks to get set up and since we were ripping up the carpet it was the one thing to paint the walls and skirting boards as well while it was easy. It just made the most sense.
Now when i say that we did it I obviously mean that i did all the work as that's how it works in this house. Well, maybe with a little help from my assistant.
I got the feature wall painted last weekend while Jess brought the kids away. We went for a much brighter color than the navy on there before and it really brightened up the room.
Then I ripped up the carpets and brought it back to the concrete floor. Much better already.
After that I sanded all of the timber features, filled the holes and added a coat of ivory paint to the skirts, door, window sills and shelves. A fresh coat of paint really brings the room up and makes it look good.
Then after a lot of rushing aorund i was finally ready to go by friday night painting with a head torch. Ready for the professesionals on Sturday who finished off the job for us.
I could probably have a go at the timber floor myself but at the price he charged and extra discounts he got on supplies it wasn't worth the hassle. Sometimes it makes more sense just to pay the man. And he did a great job. The picture doesn't do it justice as there is a glare but it looks like a new room and a total upgrade.
So happy with the result and happy to sit here with a nice fire down and back on hive again.

We don't actually have any plants in the house but lots outside. Very green around the outside of the property.
