Today my friend composer and organist from Soundcloud Michael Calabris wrote to me that he's planning to start a blog. But first he has to finish his exams.
I think it's wonderful that he is thinking about sharing his musical perspectives with the world.
I wrote to him that I understand that there will never be a good time to start sharing your work. A lot has changed since I have started back in 2011. The blogosphere become more crowded place and podcasting is the new blogging which just adds more stress. Since so many people are doing it, it's increasingly hard to get noticed.
If I was to start today, I would start my blog/podcast with Wordpress and cross-post on Steemit via SteemPress (steemit.com/@steempress-io) and from Steemit to Whaleshares via steem2wls (steem2wls.rocks/). Shopify works fine for me to sell my products and services.
The only regret I have from all those years is that I wish I had started earlier. But I spent entire year doing "research" and trying to avoid mistakes which I did plenty anyway.
For Steemit and Whaleshares, I suggest he keep his expectations low. The earning rewards they have on the Trending page are atypical and require tons of networking and investment.
But he would surely get rewarded more than just having a regular blog on Wordpress. At least it will help cover his expenses.
What do you think? Is Steemit and Whaleshares a good option for beginner bloggers?

I think that Steem is the perfect way to start creating any blog. Blogging is about sharing your own (written) content. Most people would go to their favourite searching tool and ask for how to start. Most results will suggest to directly buy a domain, some hosting -in you know which company, all of them suggest the exact same one- and begin setting up the WordPress instance. However, they are always living as homework the more important part: the content creatiion.
Some of them are suggesting to start by using the WordPress.com free hosting. It is easier, but still there is some work to be done.
That's why I think the best way to begin blogging is using Steem or any other platform like it. The only thing the person will need to do is to create the content. Then the rewards will come. If the person has the support from the community needed -which maybe is not the support the person thinks his content deserves- then the next step could be using his own hosting on a WordPress instance.
I don't know of any better way of starting a blog and getting the first rewards after just week like on Steemit. (or in the case of Whaleshares - two weeks). I made my first dollar after 3 months of blogging back in 2012. Today would be several times as difficult to make money blogging. If I started now, I don't even think I would have enough patience to blog without assurance of payout as we have on the blockchain.
Thanks for recommending our service! Btw, we are now a Whaleshares witness, as you suggested a few weeks ago: https://whaleshares.io/@steem2wls/steem2wls-is-now-a-whaleshares-witness
About your post, using Wordpress with Steempress and steem2wls is esxactly what we would recommend bloggers! As an alternative to Steempress, having a blog directly on Steem with @engrave and soon with @travelfeed (travel blogs) is possible.
For your friend, @dsound might be an option to post music in combination with blog posts in addition/as an alternative to Soundcloud.

Yes but the only problem I have with @dsound is that they don't keep the audio for a long time. Sure, people could configure the hosting themselves but it's really above and beyond of a normal musician skill set.
