Following in the footsteps of those that review games on Steemit.
Here, I would like to share - ShadeSpire.
The games maker, Games Workshop, has done very well in creating a small, simple, yet diverse game.
- Warband
- Board
- Attack & Defence Dice
- Objective Cards
- Ploy Cards
- Upgrade Cards
- Glory
- Gameplay
- Other addons such as painting
- Summary
1. Warbands
You pit your warband, the starting set comes with 2, against another, or others.
Each warband has strengths and weaknesses.
Fast vs Slow
Few vs Many
Strong vs Weak
Etc...
2. Board
There are 4 play boards.
Each also affects the placement of Objective Markers & your Warband.
This will affect your, and your opponents, strategy.
As, whoever wins the roll of board placement, can influence the outcome of the game.
3. Attack and Defense Dice
I was not a fan of unique dice early on.
But after playing XWing, it kinda makes sense.
The dice are used to determine who does most things. You roll 4 dice each to decide who does what first. It can change your whole strategy.
The dice roll adds randomness to the game. Your anxieties rise as your whole success is encumbent upon the Universal Force!
4. Objective/ 5. Ploy/ 6.Upgrade Cards
Objective cards determine your strategy to earn Glory.
Hold an Objective. Invade the other board. Suffer no damage. Many different ways to earn glory. You need to gain yours and stifle your opponent from earning theirs.
Ploy cards are actions to gain advantage. Move your opponent. Nerf their ability. Enhance your opportunity. There are many Ploys to play.
Upgrade cards enable you to spend your Glory earned to buff up your heroes. Special moves, extra attributes, they all help your Warband to survive and help you to victory.
7. Glory
You ultimately want to earn more Glory than your opponent.
Glory can be earned by killing an enemy or fulfilling an Objective.
Using Glory to Upgrade your Warband.
8. Gameplay
The game is just 3 phases.
Each phase is made up of 4 action rounds.
The tough decision is what will you do with your action? Once a person moves, they cannot move again until the next phase. If they charge and attack then they cannot attack until the next phase.
I won't go into all the steps and rules and such. If you're interested then YouTube has a huge amount of videos.
9. Other addons such as painting
Yes, you can paint your miniatures to your heart's content.
The miniatures are easily put together.
The plain models are ok to play with but some people like to paint them.
Here is a very detailed How To Paint on YouTube.
Fantastic instructional for the painting hobbyist.
10. Summary
-Easy to learn game.
-Games are quite quick 20 to 40 mins depending on the chit chat and experience level.
-Not expensive for the base set and new warbands.
-Luck, strategy & fantasy all rolled into a boardgame.

The Universal Force is the ultimate, deciding factor...
The dice rolls for both the Lawful Good and the Chaotic Evil.
The Dice Gods hate me :(
Just bought this game and hopefully could play it with my kids. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for this.
Are those your models painted?
I haven't played Shadespire yet. Kinda went away from Warhammer a while ago, to paint other ranges. Maybe I will get back to give it a go, still haven't even started painting Space Hulk yet, and I have had it for 10 years.
Nope, mine are the base blue out of the pack ones.
The diehard painters normally are from the Warhammer gaming clans.
They were done by a guy named Tai & Robert.
Good people, make good games, great!
Oh My, the Space Hulk - talk to @tezzajw about that - he focused alot of his youth on it!
