RE: Boatbuilding - 2010 Dinghy Build

I just did some research on discord, and unfortunately I will not be using it for several reasons.
It's not FOSS (free open source software)
It's not peer to peer (it has centralized servers)
Not encrypted communication
How is the company planning to pay for the service they provide (If I am not paying to use the service, then I am not the customer)

i understand your concern, and totally respect it, the Ale and Rum will still be there if you do decide to join though. :)

Currently Steemit.chat is down, and prior to that very few people used it, so hopefully when they relaunch it, it will be a lot more engaging and interesting to use.

Discord on the other hand, has been instrumental for getting in touch with people on Steemit. I belong to several communities on it and found that it is very necessary in order to grow on the platform. There are thousands of groups on it, big and small, and so far i've seen to issues in privacy, especially since you can continue using your steemit name and no one really knows who you are...

For now i will be mainly focusing on building knot using Discord as a means to privately discuss ideas, etc. But if you have a safer method please let me know and i'll give it a consideration. :)

Thank you. I would love to chat with everyone.

I noticed that discord was popular here with steemit users, and was excited when you invited me.
When I went to join you, I was surprised to find it was not part of the steem blockchain/platform.
I just think the steem blockchain and platform are great.

It's just that I am a little peculiar... if this was free and just world, it would not be an issue.

Alternative to discord would be XMPP
Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol
