I've been thinking about this topic a lot recently because I'm mentally preparing for the book launch party I'll be hosting in honour of my second novel's fall release. So exciting! Also, a good friend encouraged me to write up this kind of post for a Facebook group we're a part of so that other authors can get some tips on this subject.
What Now?
You've poured your heart, sweat, and maybe some tears, into producing your first book. It may have taken two years or less. Maybe it took more than five (which was the case with me). What do you do now? Book launch party!
The Why's
Coverage: Of course, invite your family, friends, and colleagues. They want to be a part of your special event. If you can get coverage from your local press, you have the opportunity to make even more fans who will spread the word for you to their friends, and it will go on.
This is the opportunity for you to get help from bookstore owners, industry experts, and the local media to build a buzz of your achievement and give you a boost in your literary career.
Reveal Your Secrets: Okay, maybe not all of them. You are the star of your book launch party. Throughout the entire process of writing your book, you may have exhibited some strange quirks and behaviours that others may not have understood. It's time to shed light on why you were glued to your screen for hours at a time (definitely not to watch cute kitten videos), why you woke up before dawn, or why you zoned out when a sudden kick of inspiration took over you in a room full of friends. Or even why you rathered stay home a particular night than go partying with friends (the horror!).
Share the inspirations behind your characters and how you came up with the idea for your story. Take the time to thank your family and friends for sticking with you through this long process.
Live Your Life to the Fullest: Celebrate! You're going to kick off your promotional events with this book launch party. Shout out to the world that you've accomplished a dream, now a reality! So many people say they want to write a book. Only a percentage do. Give yourself the credit you deserve and party!
Next week...
Stay tuned for the nitty, gritty Part 2. I'll be writing up on all the preliminary business preparations needed to plan a successful book launch.
Congratulations! Not sure why I wanted to know how to plan and execute a successful book launch! I should probably write a book first!
Thanks, @lucy-and-dan! Lol. Is that something you're interested in doing?
its in the back of my mind somewhere!
This is exciting, I can't wait for your next book launch! Also, you should post some photos of your last book launch, it was pretty epic!
