Brief review of “The Communist Manifesto” from “The Nationalism Reader” pp. 178-183

Karl Marx has a dual thesis to the Communist Manifesto which states, revolutions that happen in liberal democracies during the modern era of Western civilization are caused by class divides.

Class warfare is also perpetual throughout history claims Marx and co-author Engels. The second aspect of Marx’s thesis is when you have recognized that class divide has been the crux of all revolutions throughout history, you would then be able to recognize your place as a laborer in the era of history in which you live, and how to maneuver politically.

The author's argument is capitalism’s constant need to expand markets for higher production yields and profits is a narrow-minded, one-sided nationalistic view that continues to happen historically with the ruling class exploiting the laborer class. The author supports this argument by stating the expansion of capitalism globally dissolves nationalistic views that support the laborer class, rather they support the “ruling class” because of their “ruling ideas” dominate any era. I agree with the predominant points made in the Communist Manifesto that states there is a perpetual struggle between the lower classes and the oppressive ruling class. I also agree that no matter what industry or labor force you prescribed to, the era in which you live distinguishes your role in the class conflict.
