Let's read 1984! - What is your favorite red pill book?

in #books7 years ago (edited)

Hi Steemit! Today I will start reading 1984, something that I should have done way earlier. But ah well, better late than never, right?

My question of the day for you is:

What is your favorite 'red pill' book?

I think 1984 is a classic, but I'm sure that there are many more books out there that have great value in the understanding of society and its rights and wrongs.

Let me know! I would love to get some recommendations for good books. I will probably post my review of 1984 here on Steemit when I have finished reading it.

Oh and thanks to @benja for giving me this book for my birthday! Check him out, he's a great artist and new to Steemit!

EDIT:

So I just found out that the book was published TODAY in 1949! What a coincidence!

Enjoy the book! It's still on my to-read list, but I loved Animal Farm by the same author, so I'm sure this classic is just as good ;)

I still need to read Animal Farm. I guess it has the same theme as 1984, more or less?

No, it's about a completely different thing. It's kind of a satire of a few different types of governing ;)

Ah ok, sounds interesting :)

It is a really good book. And it's a pretty short read as well, and you can easily finish it in a day or two. I really recommend it :)

The Problem of Political Authority by Michael Huemer

I was more awoken to things just by paying attention to events and being a voracious reader of online content. That book is the best most persuasive argument for my own positions that I have seen though.

Wow he was actually my professor last semester. Didn't realize he was such a prominent philosopher! My beliefs always tended to coincide with his, and he was a definitely an interesting teacher too.

Thanks for the tip! But yeah, the same counts for me. Reading books is not something I do every day.

Much shorter than a book, but also a really good read I encountered recently:

The Sermon on the Mount: A Manifesto for Christian Anarchism

Alright thanks again mate

Fahrenheit 451. Slaughterhouse 5. Pathnotes Of An American Ninja Master. Schrodinger's Cat. Cryptoscatology. The Cosmic Serpent. Chameleo.

Thanks! I will have a look at all of those.

Haha, don't go overboard! I've never read 1984, but I think I've heard enough about it to get the gist. There are so many books I'd like to read. Maybe one of these days I'll have the time to read 1% of them.

Oh yeah there are so many books that I want to read as well. Hopefully I'll have more time this summer.

1984 is definitely one of my favorite books. I've read it several times and also watched the movie more than once. Very depressing, but unfortunately we live in just that kind of world Orwell imagined. Or worse. Enjoy the book and then watch the movie. John Hurt was incredible.

I totally forgot there is a movie. Thanks for reminding me!

"None Dare Call it Conspiracy" by Gary Allen & "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley are ones similar to "1984" that I think you would find very interesting, if you haven't already read them : )
