For the sake of helping Steemit grow...It might be worth the scam? Input requested.

in #bots7 years ago

I'll get back to posting comics next, but first I could use some input on a thought I had. This popped up in my steem...

If there is one thing there is no shortage of on this platform...it's bots. I am assuming this is a bot. I'd be happy to admit I'm wrong , but for the sake of argument let's say it is a bot -

I go to the steemit page and it has umpteen thousand "followers" and they do resteem things quite often. SO...I look at their list of followers briefly and click on a few. It is, as you would guess, other bots and people who are new and have even less understanding of how to navigate Steemit than I do ( and that's saying something). Meaning their ability to give my post exposure amounts to resteeming it to these bots and random new people...and you get whatever response you get.

So, here's the thing. Random or not, I believe my post of comics they offered to give exposure to is good, solid content. When you are new to steemit and don't know how to find anything, the first thing you do is click on "trending" or "new" and you see 700000 articles about bitcoins, and recipes ( no insult meant to writers of this stuff...but many of us don't know how to cook or anything about crypo currency and don't want to learn either) . That's not very rewarding, and for someone easily discouraged that might be as far as they look around. They then post one or two things, get no response, and never come back. That type user seeing my post of quality content, which is very off the wall and different from the first check of a "trending" section might keep them looking around.

My humor isn't for everyone...so the odds of them going all the way to my online store is pretty slim, but the post may clue them in that there is more to see than recipes and bitcoin blogs. Imagine if someone went to youtube and there was no "up next" suggestions of obscure weirdness for them to wander through? They would miss out on all that is good on youtube. Same thing here. There is much that is good, however you have to know it's there.

So maybe for the sake of showing a few people who aren't good at getting past step one, that there is stuff worth finding here, it might be worth it to give this a go. Y'know...for the sake of pitching in and helping it grow. It's only going to cost me .700 SBD or 1.0 STEEM...and i don't even know what those are.

I dunno...What say you?

Sort:

Seriously, don't bother.. just accept the 0.001 SBD and think.. thanks very much. They will resteem your article, but it wont generate you any more hits.

If you want a free resteem, then use resteemit.

Eg.. for this one..

Just put 're' before it..

@cryplectibles @slobberchops I hear what you're saying and in most cases I'm 100% right on board with that logic. but to be clear I genuinely dgaf if this helps me specifically ( I would be surprised if it did). I'm fine just building my own following through my contents merit.

I would be doing this solely for new people who get only spam...to get at least one spam that is quality, so that they get inspired to look around. Would you say for that purpose, it is worth the shot in the dark or still no?

I’d still say no. I think the number of genuinely interactive but “lost” users who follow these bots is slim to none. The vast majority of their followers are people and bots who engage in “follow for follow” behavior just to inflate their numbers. I do just what @slobberchops said and gleefully accept the small amount of cash they sent to deliver their message!

Bryan is exactly right here. You wouldn't be helping anyone.

I doubt these re-steem services will do much for you. Just see what posts on their feed are getting. No whale is going to be following them, so you won't get a vote from them that way. You'll notice that these services don't post so they cannot get flagged. Okay, so they are paying us to send a message, but it won't add up to much even over a year.

Just keep on building a following.

I guess I wasn't clear in the post. I don't expect it to help me at all. ( I don't need no fucking bots, I'll live or die on the quality of my work) It would just be to put something actually good into the stream of reposts the bot is making for the people who are seeing bot stuff because they haven't figured out how to find stuff yet. still no, then?

It's entirely up to you. It's not a massive investment and maybe you will gain some good followers from it.

People use the word 'bot' to mean various things. For me it's an automated account that posts something. That can be good if it's detecting and highlighting plagiarism, but bad if it's spamming. The resteem and voting services are businesses that don't generally post, but they are using automation. Some of them share out their earnings, but others are just benefiting a few really.

yeah...maybe I'll just leave well enough alone until I've gotten a better handle on this site overall.

DON'T DO IT!

If I remember I will come back to this post and try and find the site, but if you Google around there is a link to either a site or Steemit post that breaks down bots and when to use what bot during whatever time of day (as if a lot of people are using one specific bot the value of that bot is not as much etc)

Look into things like getting sponsorship on @steembasicincome instead maybe. All bots are bad but I've used them too, just keep an eye on the return on your investment.

this goes into some of the math of using bidbots.

remember that if you put in 20 SBD for a bot vote, you won't get 100% back even if they vote 20 SBD worth. There is the curation fee.

It could be helpful but its a gamble, essentially. Ive had some success and some failure using bots.

I'd pass.

Thanks for everyone's feedback, i appreciate it. I'm just going to pass on that idea, at least until I have a better grasp on how Steemit works overall.

Thumbs up - even though .7 SBD is only a couple of bucks, the question is - would you go in your bathroom right now and flush two $1 bills down the toilet? If not, same answer should apply here :)
