who needs a moderator?
I thought that steem was decentralized?
No censorship?
Who died and put the vigalantes in charge? Who elected them to "control spam and abuse?"
Why is it that people talk about how wonderful a free and open system will be..
then they do their best to prevent if from happening?
flaggin is abuse by definition.
It should be removed from the code.
I know you feel strongly about this, but Steemit does need moderation. We don't want central control, so users do the moderation with the same power they use to reward posts. If they can't flag then they shouldn't be allowed to reward either as that can be abused too (and it is). Without moderation Steemit will be 99% spam very soon, much as email is. Nothing is perfect, but the freedom we have here gives us a chance to create something wonderful. I've seen cases where someone was flagged due to a disagreement and others rallied to counter the flag.
I can partly see his point, but I still think he's wrong. Flagging doesn't physically harm anyone and it may persuade them to behave better here. He thinks we can control spam by muting, but that won't work. It's up to the community to moderate.
"we had to destroy the village in order to save it".
Don't Do ANYTHING to deal with spam.
One man's spam is another's man's breakfast.
who are you to judge?
If you see something you don't like...
MUTE it...and carry on.
If everyone feels as you do then the post(er) will be muted by everyone.
Not much profit in being ignored...(except for bots...bots are unethical)...so the so called spammer will go away.
If you REALLY want to go all Mrs. Grundy and DO SOMETHING then make a list.
"Things that have my panties in a twist today" and post it..then everyone who feels as you do can mute them too.
It's just a way of moderating. How else do we control spam and abuse? That said, flagging can be abused too.

We have freedom. It's up to us how we use it.
Peace

oh really? Do you want sex and virginity too?,
Eh? What's the connection? What's your suggestion to deal with spam?
@steevc This guy is delusional..
I posted a valid argument about this yesterday as well (ended with him muting me)
