Michael Conlan VS. Ruben Ruiz

Michael Conlan improved his unbeaten record to [12-0 6KOs] with an excellent win over the outclassed Ruben Ruiz [21-3 10KOs] in front of a ecstatic sellout hometown crowd in his native Belfast.

Conlan had an almost punch perfect performance winning every round with consummate ease, culminating in a ninth round stoppage. He controlled the pace of the fight from the outset and boxed his way to the stoppage victory over an opponent who had previously never tasted the canvas, never mind been stopped. The only imperfection in his performance was a couple of stray blows that landed below the belt line of Ruiz, which he was reprimanded for by the referee, but in future bouts this mistake could prove costly and lead to points deductions.

The fight itself as a spectacle was too one-sided to be considered a good fight, but it could be considered a good performance for the young rising star, and bodes well for the future of young Conlan. If he can keep beating his opponents so easily as the competition level rises, then there is no telling where his climb will end.

Conlan faces some seriously tough competition in the future, as the featherweight division especially the youngsters that are coming through the ranks are exceptional, Shakur Stevenson is yet undefeated as a professional, and Robisey Ramirez the former two time Olympic champion is turning pro this very weekend.
