Homecoming
Srisaket Sor Rungvisai became an overnight sensation in Thailand when he ripped the the world title from the then undefeated pound for pound king, Roman Chocolalito Gonzalez, in what appeared to many as a controversial decision. Many believed Srisaket to be a one hit wonder, but In a return fight against Gonzalez, Srisaket proved his doubters wrong and silenced his critics with a clinical and decisive 4th round knockout. Since then Srisaket has had two fights and both have been outside his native Thailand, robbing him of a well deserved, well earned homecoming. On Oct. 6, 2018, at Impact Arena in Bangkok, against Iran Diaz, that dream will now become a reality.
Iran Diaz, of Mexico, next in line for a shot at the throne, seems vastly inexperienced when his record is compared side by side to that of Srisaket's, but Diaz is on a roll at the minute having strung together a 4 fight undefeated streak, including three wins and one draw, due to an accidental clash of heads. In those three wins he has claimed unexpected and impressive victories over two former world champions in Hernan "Tyson" Marquez and Luis Concepcion.
Diaz will be a huge outsider when challenging for the super flyweight title in the champions backyard, and he knows it. In an attempt to offset the disadvantages, Diaz has procured the help of boxing legend and former 4 division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez in an advisory role.
If Srisaket Sor Rungvisai can see his way to a victory in this fight then much bigger challenges and paydays could be waiting just around the corner, as a potential unification super fight with IBF world champion, Jerwin Ancajas, has been looming on the horizon for quite sometime now.
Although the main event is a boxing match, the undercard will feature an array of combat sports including kickboxing, Mauy thai and mixed martial arts.
The referee is ready, the judges are ready, and the fighters are in the ring... and now fight fans....
