So right now Brave is giving away $1,000,000 worth of Basic Attention Tokens(BAT). They are trying to promote the use of their web browser which is built around BAT.
The basic premise of the whole project is that viewers should be rewarded for their attention and that advertising should benefit both user and content creator. By default Brave blocks advertisements and trackers on any website you visit. Eventually when you watch an advertisement on Brave you will be rewarded with BAT. Your attention is valuable. It's a pretty cool idea in theory and I'm interested to see how it all plays out.
Another side of Brave is that you can set a monthly budget which pays the content creators you frequent most often. In conjunction with getting paid for any advertisements you view this could be great for content creators. It wouldn't really cost users anything besides what they had passively earned while browsing and viewing content.
Right now I'm using Brave a little bit for some general surfing and youtube/twitch. Basically anywhere I'd normally be accosted by ads. It seems nice so far and I will continue to dabble with the browser a little bit, at least until I run out of BAT.
I think there is some potential here. The browser itself feels quite nice and I plan on continuing to use the browser at least in some capacity for the foreseeable future.
I just checked and there was a claim free tokens button!
Now I have free BATS
#Thanks @bwar!
Yeah it's a little bit to get you started. I think their current intent is really too get content creators using and promoting brave.
Proud to say I use their browser too. The idea is great and the value of bat will take off. I am sure of it.
The browser runs quite smooth sailing I've been happy so far
This is quite an interesting read, the content is good. Thanks.
