To all the broken hearted females out there.
And to all the male Cheaters out there.
I bet y'all didn't know about a law in Nigeria called "Breach Of Promise (Contract) to Marry "
To you Guys, Mr Cheater, it's funny yeah? I hope you don't get served one day with this kind of civil suit , because the claim for damages will shock and scare you like thunder, you start falling in love again to the same girl you cheated or dumped. However seemingly funny this could be, you all should be aware the Nigerian Law takes into serious consideration a promise or agreement to Marry as a "Binding inding legal contract". This explanation is however brief and concise, hence (Overtly and covertly) exceptions to this principle of law are excused .
An agreement or promise to Marry is viewed as a binding legal contract, and if a party can show that there was in actual fact an existence of a promise to marry and one party reneged, then a civil claim can be made.
For the purpose of proving a claim, two elements are necessary to constitute a breach of agreement or promise of marriage. First, that the party jilted must prove to the satisfaction of the court that there was in fact a promise of marriage under the matrimonial Act, 1990, Islamic Law or under customary Law, on the part of the other sex. second, that the party reneging has really, and as a matter of fact, failed or refused to keep to the agreement of marriage... The reliefs you can seek in court shall however be limited to the damages as the court cannot compel anyone to marry another. Extent of damages for such breach is however at the discretion of the court. Thank You.
