Start a day with Nasi Lemak Wanjo
On usual day; the Malaysian favorite of breakfast is Nasi Lemak, it's a mixed rice, coconut milk, pandan leaves together
making the texture and the aroma very tempting.
Today, I tried Nasi Lemak Wanjo, called in turns Mak Wanjor for the matriarch of the family until the sign came up on their shop recently; serves a good, solid nasi lemak. For those of you that like your sambal a little sweet, this is the place for you. It’s still spicy but there’s a sultry sweetness that runs through it and a smokiness that gives it character.
Hot, sweet and deep
Paired with their ‘ceroi’ nasi lemak it’s definitely one to check out if you are in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur. They usually open early in the morning, have a break in the afternoon then reopens at 4pm until late night. Each nasi lemak ‘biasa’ (regular/standard) comes with a whole egg and you can either choose boiled or bullseye (fried egg).
Paru (cow lung) is highly recommended
Lauk-wise (Other dishes) paru here is a must try, soft and delicious. They also do a decent sambal sotong (chilly squid), rendang (meat), begedel (mixed potatoes + vaggies) and fried chicken.
The shop is clean with enough space
A nasi lemak biasa (regular/standard nasi lemak) at Wanjo
Nasi lemak Wanjo has been plying their trade for over 40 years. They started out as a modest stall and now has an actual lot with tables and chairs. They are easy to find being right next to the infamous Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa (that's another story to cover). Prices have gone up recently to about RM3 (USD$1) for a normal nasi lemak but you do get a whole egg and the sambal is pretty wicked. There are queues in the morning but service is fast and usually with a smile :)
It looks delicious and healthy especially the curry looks yummy thank you for sharing.
