The Swiss President, Johann Schneider-Ammann, stressed on Monday that Switzerland should participate in a Free Trade agreement with the UK post-Brexit. He suggested that the UK could either rejoin EFTA (the European Free Trade Association) which it left when it joined the EU in the 1970s, or a trade deal could be signed between EFTA and the UK, without formal membership.
EFTA membership would give the UK access to the European Single Market.
Britain was a founder member of EFTA in 1960. Current members are Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.
Re-entering EFTA could make complicate negotiations with the EU obsolete for GB, because trade rules between EFTA and EU already exist.
Please call Theresa May and tell her this.
Exactly. Personally I am sorry the UK ever left EFTA for the EEC/EU, but that is ancient history.
